• Donner Summit

Donner Summit is the largest climbing area in the region. Located off old Highway 40 west of Truckee, it has 400 different routes that lead to endless possibilities for any climber.

  • Big Chief

Located in Truckee. Directions: South Highway 267 out of Truckee, turn right on Ponderosa Palisades Road, turn right on Silver Fir, then left on Thelin St. From here turn right onto a small forest service road about 500 yards up Thelin. Follow this road for 5.2 miles, turn right into a large logged parking area. Pick up a trail leading NorthWest out of the parking area. Follow for 1 mile. The crag is on the backside of the hill you have to climb up at the end of the trail.

  • Twin Crags

Twin Crags is just north of Tahoe City off Highway 89 and is great for beginners. The 90 Foot Wall in Eagle Creek Canyon near Emerald Bay offers beginners the opportunity to gain more experience. Split Rock is hidden at the west end of Donner Memorial State Park and offers almost every style of climbing.

  • Lovers Leap

About 60 miles from Truckee off Highway 50 near Strawberry. Great for single and multiple pitch routes with lots of variety for everyone. Camping nearby.


This is the largest climbing gym in the area and is located in Incline Village.

The Truckee Sports Exchange is located on West River St. near downtown Truckee. They sell climbing gear and have a large bouldering gym in the back of the store.
